Morocco
Marrakech
The Medina (the old town of Marrakech). Surrounded by walls, the medina has many small windy streets. You can see the mountains that surround Marrakech in two of the photos.
The Djeema-el-fna is the central square of The Medina. Here there are many market stalls and people meet to watch entertainers or storytellers.
Marrakech's most famous landmark is the Al Koutoubia Mosque.
The Atlas Mountains
Marrakech is situated on the west side of the Atlas mountains. There are spectacular views on the road that passes over to the east side.
Todra Gorge
One of the gorges on the east side of the Atlas mountains has some nice views and has a pleasant valley. A woman came past with a large load of ferns on her back - she wanted money for the photograph!
The Sahara desert
There are some nice views on the way to the desert.
The Moroccans are football mad!
A man offered us a live rabbit for our dinner.
The only area of the Sahara in Morocco where there are proper sand dunes is in Merzouga. It is a beautiful peaceful area.
The wind was strong at the top of the largest dune and it blew the sand around. There is a movie of this and the impressive 360 degree view in .mpg format.
This is Ehsan, my travelling companion.
and a photo he took with my camera...
Late in the day the sand dunes take on an amazing skin-like colour.
We stayed in a hostel close to the dunes where we were well looked after by the locals who played drums with us every night.
